— filed under:

Here are a sample of The Greens campaigns. Keep checking as we regularly provide more information. Greens MPs, Councillors and members are campaigning in their communities throughout NSW on issues ranging from overdevelopment, discrimination, traffic chaos, land clearing, underfunded public services and more...

Stop Climate Change

It is time for the "global warming election". The myths that coal can be clean and nuclear can be safe are distractions. Whilst the major parties are addicted to coal, the Greens are committed to a rapid transformation of NSW's energy industry to low emission renewable energy options such as solar and wind power, energy efficiency and conservation measures. There is no choice between the economy and the environment: both can be healthy and sustainable.

Greens NSW Urban Water Plan

The Greens water plan centres on rainwater tanks, local grey water treatment, stormwater harvesting, wastewater recycling, improved efficiency and stronger restrictions. Greens MP Lee Rhiannon welcomes the growing public support for water recycling but there is still an enormous capacity of the public to save water and use it more efficiently.

Green Roofs

Green Roofs

The Greens want to establish a government-run Green Roofs finance scheme to provide households with interest-free loans to buy and install solar or high efficiency gas hot water systems and water tanks at no up-front cost. The aim is to install half a million water tanks across Sydney by 2015 and 2.6 million homes with solar or high efficiency gas hot water systems by 2022.

Campaigning for Working Australians

The Greens oppose “Workchoices”, the new federal industrial relations laws, and support their repeal. These federal laws cover areas that the states have traditionally regulated. “WorkChoices” aims to centralise all industrial relations legislation in the hands of the Federal Government. These laws not only remove legal protections for workers in the state systems but drastically reduce the protections from the old federal industrial relations legislation. “WorkChoices” undermines the rights of every working Australian and as a consequence will have a disastrous affect on our society.

Putting Public Education First

The Greens enthusiastically support strong, innovative and vibrant public education. Only the public system can provide high quality education to all students, regardless of their socio-economic status, religious or ethnic background or level of ability. The social and economic success of future generations depends on restoring optimism to public education.Over the past eight years Greens MPs have been the voice of public education in the NSW state parliament.

Democracy4Sale

Political donations can distort the political system. The Greens are campaigning to tighten donations disclosure laws. We are also calling for the major parties to disclose their donations immediately so that the public does not have to wait for more than a year after the election to find out who are the big donors. Rapid disclosure would restore the balance in the public's favour by revealing how and when these cash inducements are being used to distort our democracy. For more information go to the Greens NSW Donations and Continuous Disclosure page and check out the full story at Democracy4Sale.

If you want to see the effect of developer donations on NSW planning and infrastructure policy check out The Developers' Map of Sydney (1.5mb) or for a high resolution copy (13mb) please visit Sylvia Hale's website.

Equality, Rights and Diversity

The Greens uphold and defend the dignity and humanity of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) people. We will not tolerate a person being harassed, abused, vilified, stigmatised, discriminated against, disadvantaged or exploited because of their sexuality or gender. The Greens will protect the civil liberties, human rights and democratic freedoms of all people. We celebrate diversity and the vibrancy it brings to Australian society, culture and economy.

Multiculturalism at the heart of stronger communities

Multiculturalism at the heart of stronger communities

Australia and NSW have a history of successful multiculturalism. Immigration has enriched this state’s society and culture, while strengthening the economy. While multiculturalism has been a cornerstone of social policy, the celebration of diversity is under increasing risk from politically motivated attacks. The Greens aim to reinvigorate support for multiculturalism as the centrepiece of a vision for a successful and cohesive society.

Planning and Development

As Greens MP Sylvia Hale makes clear in the developers guide to Sydney, the planning system in NSW is heavily biased against the community. While development applications from the big developers are becoming easier to push through, the ability for the community to resist these over-sized and unsustainable developments is diminishing.
