myth advocates: Greens”
As The Greens NSW education spokesperson, John Kaye has argued for government funding to be withdrawn from religious schools who teaching intelligent design in science classes. Intelligent Design is a modern-day version of creationism that seeks to replace Darwin’s theory of evolution with one that injects God into the equation as the ‘designer’ of life.
"In the hunter region ten Christian and Adventist schools ranging from Medowie Christian School to Wallsend's Macquarie College received $14.2 million of state and federal funds in 2003/4 while they taught intelligent design."
John advocates that intelligent design should only be taught in religious classes as a belief rather than an alternative to evolution. John believes children are being taught "bad theology and bad science", as the Vatican recently labeled intelligent design.
“Isolating these students from scientific reality will have appalling consequences. They are at risk of becoming unemployable in many important areas of the economy where scientific method is essential.
"Public funding should be removed from schools that taught the new form of creationism"
