While the federal budget has made record investment in public transport infrastructure, with $4.2 billion awarded to new commuter rail projects in Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide, the Labor government has failed NSW commuters, Greens transport spokesperson Senator Lee Rhiannon said today.
Real growth not GDP
By Senator Christine Milne, Leader of the Australian Greens
How do we build an economic system that serves the needs of people and nature, both for today and for tomorrow?
The economy is a tool; a tool we humans invented – like democracy and politics – to help govern our relationships between each other, and between ourselves and the world we live in. If our economic tools are not getting the outcomes we want, making us happy, safe, healthy, better educated and fulfilled and protecting and preparing our country for an increasingly uncertain future in a world on track to be 4 degrees warmer, then it is time our economic tools changed.
No vision: draft transport plan written for the roads lobby not NSW..
The O’Farrell government’s draft Transport Masterplan released today continues NSW’s record of prioritising roads over public transport, according to Greens MP and transport spokesperson Cate Faehrmann.
“There’s little in this draft plan to suggest that it’ll be any different from the previous government’s approach. We’re looking at massive investment in roads, despite this having been the case for the previous 20 years,” said Ms Faehrmann.
“Simply put, more motorways for Sydney is more of the same. Any commuter can tell you what a failure they’ve been.

Premier helps guarantee CBD gridlock
Greens MP and transport spokesperson Cate Faehrmann says the Premier has caved in to misguided campaign against Sydney's new cycle infrastructure, with reports a new NSW Government committee will remove the City's transport and traffic planning powers (see today's Daily
Telegraph p2).
"By preventing the City of Sydney from implementing its visionary transport policy, the Premier will be helping guarantee CBD gridlock," said Ms Faehrmann.
