The Greens are calling on NSW Education Minister Adrian Piccoli to lift the veil of secrecy that has shrouded the Gonski proposals to change school funding.

'Defer Gonski's funding reforms, private schools urge', Sydney Morning Herald, 22 May 2012.

Greens NSW MP John Kaye said: "While most Australians are being kept in the dark about the impacts of the Gonski review's funding proposals, the private school lobby and state governments have been given access to the data.

"The Gillard government has maintained tight control over the modelling, leaving the wealthy private school advocates free to undermine the process.

"The Association of Independent Schools has been exploiting its head start to make sure the non-government sector yet again does well at the expense of public education.

"NSW Education Minister Adrian Piccoli is supposed to be the advocate for the state's 2,190 public schools.

"He should make sure that the data is made public to level the playing field.

"The Gonski recommendations would have far reaching implications for education in this state.

"While the Association of Independent Schools is busy using its privileged access to the data to derail the process, the 750,000 students in NSW public schools are still waiting for the additional $1.2 billion that the Gonski review said their education needed.

"It's time for a much fairer debate where all voices have equal access to the data," Dr Kaye said.
