Greens start Legislative Council preselection
Nominations have now closed in the Greens NSW Legislative Council preselection. We look forward to a positive campaign period as our membership chooses new Greens candidates for the Legislative Council.
This preselection will choose the first five candidates for the Legislative Council for the next state election in March 2011. In addition, Greens members will also be choosing a successor to Lee Rhiannon MLC, who will be resigning from the Legislative Council to run for the Senate at the time of the next federal election. Nominations closed on 5 October and the following people have nominated:
Jan Barham
Adam Butler
Jeremy Buckingham
Rodney Degens
Lesa de Leau
Christine Donayre
Cate Faehrmann
Amanda Findley
Chris Harris
Cathy Griffin
Jeff Johnson
Jill Merrin
James Ryan
David Shoebridge
Karla Sperling
Sue Wynn
Sitting Greens MPs Ian Cohen and Sylvia Hale have not nominated for preselection, and thus will not be standing for re-election at the 2011 state election.
A postal ballot will be conducted amongst Greens NSW members in November. The results will be confirmed on 5 December at a meeting of the Greens NSW State Delegates Council in Bega.
Candidates have been requested to refrain from discussing the preselection with media. However they remain available to discuss matters on which they would normally deal with the media.
