POLICY SUMMARY

When we have control over our own future, our health, education potential and economic prosperity all improve – no matter who we are. It’s the right to self-determination. Recognising that control of land is the basis for self-determination, we should complete all outstanding native title claims in New South Wales.
And when government supports New South Wales' Indigenous peoples to take real control of their own affairs, then we will see a closing of the gap in all areas of Indigenous disadvantage – forever.
The Greens NSW support:
- Amendments to the preamble of the Australian Constitution to recognise the original and ongoing occupation of Australia by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island peoples and their rights as Australia's indigenous peoples.
- Lobby for amendments to the Native Title Act 1993 and complementary NSW legislation that has the support of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island peoples
- Increased resources in both community-controlled health services and mainstream services, with more Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island health workers and health professionals, and with a priority on child health and mental health.
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island community initiatives and networks to improve cohesion in communities
- Establish and fund early childhood education and care programs in schools with significant Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island student populations
- Actively involve Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island peoples in the development and implementation of climate change adaption and mitigation strategies and programs.
- Support reconciliation initiatives, establish a state based reparations process to compensate harms suffered by the stolen generations , and advocate for the full repayment of stolen wages.
