Public Sector Social and Environmental Responsibility Policy

Revised August 2006

Principles

The Greens NSW:

1. Support the use of Triple Bottom Line (TBL) accounting to reflect social, environmental and economic responsibilities of all large public and private sector entities;

2. Believe that all Government agencies should adopt social and environmental responsibility principles and practices and should be mandated (through legislation) to commit to triple bottom line responsibilities outlined in their corporate plan; and

3. Believe the performance agreements of Directors-General and Chief Executive Officers should include a requirement to deliver on triple bottom line responsibilities.

Detail

The Greens NSW will work towards:

4. Establishing TBL reporting indicators for use by NSW Government agencies in their annual reports. The indicators should span social, economic and environmental performance;

5. Establishing robust TBL performance measures to incorporate in the planning and monitoring tasks of Regional Coordination Groups and in the outcomes, definition and evaluation of cross government agency community initiatives;

6. Assessing the costs and benefits of adopting a TBL preference approach in State policies (giving priority to tenderers which have a demonstrated TBL approach in their business operations); and

7. The implementation of genuine TBL practices by private enterprise.
