Greens candidate for Albury

Chris Sobey Chris Sobey has lived in Albury for over 25 years, after living in many country towns across the state. She and her husband Les operated a family retail business until retiring in 1999. They have three children who have been successful at university and in various fields.

Mrs Sobey's interests are in her native garden, boating, birdwatching and caring for injured animals. She has completed both the bushwalking and mountaincraft leadership courses which have added to her commitment to the environment.

She has also spent many years involved with local community groups such as the P&C, World Vision, the local environment centre and more recently, with reconciliation groups and Rural Australians for Refugees.

Mrs Sobey was a Greens candidate in the 2001 Federal election. She also organised a rally in 2003 against the Iraq war with the help of locals and Greens NSW.

"My overriding concern is about global warming and its impacts on our children, water and food supplies. I await the future with both deep concern and an unfathomable hope!"
