Davidson
Jo-Anne Lentern
Greens candidate for Davidson
Jo-Anne Lentern has been a member of The
Greens for over ten years. She runs a sound recording business with her
husband, and is the mother of two teenage children. She has campaigned
extensively on nuclear issues, and is passionate about the threat of global
warming.
“These are critical days for all of us in Australia. The decisions we make today will determine the legacy we leave for future generations.
“We urgently need to put a price on carbon. That means levies on our coal exports, and a carbon tax on domestic use. That money could then be poured into renewable technology like wind, solar and geo-thermal power generation, creating thousands of jobs.
“Unbelievably, the Iemma government is planning to expand the coal industry in NSW, with nine new mines and a new coal loader in Newcastle. By exporting coal, we'll be importing climate change. Our coal exports will deliver us heatwaves, bushfires, droughts and storm surges right here in Sydney. What a legacy, what a thing to do to future Australians, for a few coal dollars today.
“The old parties cannot take effective action on climate change, because they are dependent on donations from developers and corporations. During this election campaign we will see that corporate money in action, on TV and in the newspapers. You won't see much of the Greens on TV because we just don't have the budget, because the Greens don't accept money from corporations. What we do have, though, is the freedom to act in the best interests of society.”
