STATE ELECTION COUNTDOWN
26 WEEKS TO GO

For all those Greens Lower House campaigns that are swinging into action the SEO website - www.seo.nsw.gov.au - has lots of useful information.

Greens preselections have been completed in 35 Lower House seats. With more than 3,000 members in NSW we are ready for an active state-wide campaign. Although the major parties heavily outspend the Greens because of their willingness to take corporate donations, our party is still gaining on Labor and the Coalition's capacity to mobilise people to work on the election campaign. Remember to build your database of local supporters and ask them to staff stalls, do letterbox drops and put their name down for your polling booth roster.

The work of our local Greens councillors always gives us a boost coming into an election. In the past few weeks they have taken up the biggest issue for this election - climate change. Greens councillors have initiated motions that express opposition to new coal mines and Anvil Hill in particular because of their contribution to global warming and call for a 15 per cent renewables target by 2012. Waverley, Marrickville, Sydney and Leichhardt Councils have passed motions along these lines. Sorry if we have missed out any other councils.

Marc Newman from South Sydney Greens has commenced work in the Greens NSW office part time as the Lower House Campaign Coordinator. Candidates and anyone involved with Lower House Greens campaigns should feel free to contact him at marc@nsw.greens.org.au. Marc's role is to provide support, advice and information to Lower House campaigns.
