NSW Liberal/National Government to Celebrate Threatened Species Day Tomorrow by Bulldozing Threatened Species Habitat at Manly

Wednesday, September 6, 2017 | Dr Mehreen Faruqi

NSW Greens MP and Spokesperson for the Environment, Dr Mehreen Faruqi MLC, has called the NSW Government shameful for clearing almost five hectares of bushland, including habitat for threatened species at Manly Vale.

This follows the clearing of critically endangered forest last year for the WestConnex Project.

The Manly Vale community will be holding a protest tomorrow morning (7th September) on Threatened Species Day from 8:15am (corner of Link and Sunshine Street in Manly Vale (More information here).

Dr. Faruqi said:

“It seems the Liberal/National Government has turned Threatened Species Day into a day of environment vandalism and an opportunity to bulldoze threatened species habitat and critically endangered bushland.

“There were always options to expand the Manly Vale school and protect the environment and even the Northern Beaches Council Administrator, who was appointed by the Liberals, came out against it.

“It’s so disappointing to see the constant chipping away of green space with no regard for the value of bushland nor for the community and our health either.

“Make no mistake; the Liberal/National Government is waging a war against trees from the suburbs to the bush, in every corner of the state” she concluded.
